Mother & Midwife. Midwife in private practice serving Fremantle and surrounding suburbs.
Providing childbirth education, pregnancy, labour and birth care, Homebirth & care for you and your baby in the postnatal period.
A local community Midwife, with over 20 years experience.
I have worked in my community attending homebirths in Fremantle and the surrounding Perth suburbs for 17 years and have been a midwife for over 20 years.
I work with mothers and their families, providing continuity of care throughout each woman’s pregnancy, birth and after the baby’s born for up to 4 weeks.
I love being a Midwife, being with a woman as she becomes a mother is a privilege. I enjoy sharing each woman’s journey using my Midwifery skills and the knowledge that I have gained over many years. “Mother & Midwife” working together.
As a Midwife it is my heart felt belief that during the antenatal period, it is my responsibility to prepare you for your birth and the postnatal period with all its exciting new challenges. On the day you birth you will have done your very best and it is my responsibility to be with you providing you with a space to make informed decisions, add changes to your plans when necessary (without fear of failure) and give you space and time to just birth. This I believe leads to a strong empowered woman who becomes a mother, builds a family and creates a community.
As a Midwife I believe in a mother's intuition and the importance of listening to her questions and concerns and acting on them. I also believe in a Midwife's intuition to just trust in the process of birth, to just know and lead ever so gently in the making of a new mother.
I am a mother of three wonderful children all planned home births with a known Midwife. I have one boy and two girls they are all grown up now and living in countries all over the world I miss then terribly but I am very proud of them and enjoy visiting them and my son-in-law.
Birth, breathtaking, beautiful, left just as it is, raw, full of struggle and disbelief at ever finding the journey's end, then when hope feels so lost with every last energy drained the woman lifts her baby into her arms and I as her Midwife am allowed in that moment to share in her unspeakable joy. This is my job.
Lisa Kennedy, serving Armadale and the South West Perth suburbs
Endorsed Midwife (RM), Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Naturopath and Nutritionist (BHSc)
Liza also has diplomas in Remedial massage and Aromatherapy (ATMS accredited)
I studied to be a Naturopath, Aroma therapist and Remedial massage therapist at Nature Care College and Charles Sturt University in Sydney in 1997. I have practised as a naturopath for 20 years in England and Australia, and I quickly developed a passion for natural fertility and maximizing health for women and men to assist conception, problem free pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.
In 2008 I began training as a midwife as I wanted to extend this knowledge to encompass the whole pregnancy, birthing and post partum journey. For the last 8 years I have practiced privately providing midwifery services at home and in hospital, I also continue to work at my local hospital casually as a midwife.
My interest has always been homebirth and in particular the relationship between mother and midwife. This came about after the life changing experience of giving birth to my two children at home, my daughter in London and my son in Perth (with Marilyn as my midwife).
As a midwife I value the time spent with each woman to build trust and to educate parents on the path ahead, not just for the birth but also for the challenges of being a new parent. The journey and experience with each woman is so precious and different. I love watching families grow and have had the true pleasure over the years of being there for the many babies a woman may have.
I deeply trust the labour and birth journey and also respect that this journey is different for everyone. My goal is to be there every step of the way no matter the outcome. I have enjoyed massaging many babies, pregnant and laboring women and I believe that body work, use of water birth and active birth can offer great relief during labour and birth.
I believe the trusting partnership forged between a mother and her midwife and having time to address any concerns, to educate and allow informed decision making is empowering to the new mother and father and is the gift that sets them on the path to parenthood. I believe that the experience of pregnancy through to the first few years of a baby’s life is formative for the child and a spiritual and emotional rite of passage for parents therefore it is a time when parents should seek out the a care giver who will cherish this experience as much as they do.
